How population centers are influenced

The most interesting thing I have learned about the influence of climate physical features and natural resources on settlement.Is that the physical features of a country would affect where people live and why they want to live there because if there were lots of transportation barriers people may not want to live there.Or if there was many fresh water spots and oceans people would most definatly want to live there.
